1st June 2018 Friday 8th Week in Ordinary Time - St. Justin, Martyr

Reflection

1 Peter 4:7-13, Mark 11:11-26

“Have faith in God”

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree? Why did He drive out those who were selling and buying in the Temple?

The answers to both questions come from Jesus’ words to His disciples after the incidents. “Have faith in God.” - This is the most fundamental foundation for every follower and disciple of Jesus. When we have no faith in God, we will be fruitless disciples like the barren fig tree. We will also turn to other idols, such as wealth, lust, power, etc. to replace God in our lives.

Having faith in God does not simply mean recitation of the Creed or to fulfil obligations. Faith in God is that we participate in an intimate relationship with God the Father. Being in a relationship with God brings us to enter into loving relationships with everyone, including those whom we cannot get along with.

Question for reflection:

1) What is Jesus’ invitation to me in this time of prayer?
