Reflection

1 Kings 21:1-16, Matthew 5:38-42

“To respond with kindness”

Our usual tendency when we encounter meanness or unkindness in others’ demand or conduct, is to react against or refuse to give in to them. Today, Jesus tells us to offer the wicked man no resistance! If someone slaps us on the right cheek, we turn and give our left as well! If someone demands for our tunic, we give our cloak to him too! If someone orders us to go one mile, we go an extra mile without him asking. If anyone borrows something from us, we give it to them.

Jesus invites us to love without limits. However, it does not mean that we do not confront someone when we do see a need to. Jesus himself confronted the Pharisees and religious leaders too. He, however, was never malicious and spiteful in his words, his actions and his thoughts.

Today, let us respond and not react!

Question for reflection:

1) What is Jesus’ invitation to me in this time of prayer?
